David Salle – Early Work

This winter Galerie Andrea Caratsch presents a selection of works by David Salle (b. 1952) from the 1980’s, a pivotal point in the artist’s career. Certainly, David Salle has extended the visual boundaries of what genres- from Fine Art to Popular Art and Design to the Common Place- can be included in a single painterly artwork. Yet, it is his use of style as such which is key to Salle’s paintings. By the early 1980’s, the artist often uses several joined panels, varying techniques of representing overlapping figures on different grounds, creating multiple visual layers and alternating viewpoints.
